Writer and producer
For almost three decades Eric Overmyer has written and produced several award-winning TV dramas. He has put his indelible mark on flagship shows for both HBO and Amazon, as either a creator, writer, producer, or executive producer. Now he’s coming to the Nordic Media Festival to talk about the do’s and don'ts of screenwriting, and to share tips and tricks from his unique wealth of knowledge.
Overmyer came to prominence through his collaboration with David Simon, first as a writer on Homicide: Life on the Street, (based on Simon’s book A Year On the Killing Streets), then as a writer and executive producer on the legendary HBO show The Wire.
His collaboration and friendship with Simon led to the making of Treme, also for HBO, where Overmyer served as a writer and executive producer. His impressive résumé also boasts over 90 episodes of Law & Order as a writer and producer, co-executive producing HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, and writing 40 episodes of the stylish Amazon Video series Bosch. Most recently he completed work as an executive producer on Amazon Video’s dystopian, alt-historical drama, The Man In The High Castle.
Overmyer has also written several plays for the stage, and won the Writers Guild of America Award and the Edgar Award for his work on The Wire season 4, and along with David Simon, won a Peabody award for Treme.
