When the last episode of Bodyguard aired in the fall of 2018 it became the most-watched stand-alone TV show episode in Great Britain of all time. Over 10 million viewers watched the season finale about the traumatized Principal Protection Officer Sergeant David Budd. The show was nominated for Best TV Drama in this year’s Golden Globe Awards and Richard Madden, who portrays Budd, won, unsurprisingly, the award for Best Actor in a TV Drama.
Behind this impressive thriller drama is a man with a remarkable career. Writer and showrunner Jed Mercurio has an M.D., has been both a fighter pilot and a hospital physician, and is the man behind six seasons of the acclaimed BBC police drama Line of Duty.
Mercurio is coming to the Nordic Media Festival to talk about his unusual career, how he developed and wrote Bodyguard, and last but not least what his plans are for the second season of the hit series.
