Achim von Borries

Writer and director

Achim von Borries was born in Munich in 1968. He studied History, Political Science and Philosophy at the Freie Universität Berlin from 1989 to 1993. In 1992 he enrolled at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie dffb. After his debut film ENGLAND! (2000), von Borries wrote and directed various feature films, including LOVE IN THOUGHTS (2004) with Daniel Brühl and August Diehl and 4 DAYS IN MAY (2011), a Russian/German/Ukrainian co-production, about the last days of WW2. Achim von Borries has written and co-written various screenplays, including “Alone in Berlin”, “Three Robbers” and “Good Bye, Lenin”. Von Borries also works as a director for television. In 2014 Achim von Borries started the collaboration with Tom Tykwer and Hendrik Handloegten as writers/directors/creators of BABYLON BERLIN, a 16 episode TV series set in Berlin 1929.  Von Borries and his colleagues are currently finishing the 3rd season of Babylon Berlin, wich will be premiered in October 2019.
